Today we will read, “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the
Lord.” (Heb. 12:14). This is a shocking statement, for who among us is holy? Who can ascend the hill of
the Lord? Not only do I sin, I am a sinner. But oh what sweet words we find in 1 John. We have an
advocate Who is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us. Our feeble frame He knows. He reclothes us
in our right mind and purifies our lives. He is faithful and just (even when we are not) and pardons our
guilt. He calls the sinner home to hide in the cleft of the Rock. Not the labors of my hands, but Christ has
fulfilled the law’s demands. He washes us and makes us pure as light, holy before the throne of our Lord
God. Praise Him, Praise Him, widely as His mercy goes! —Nathan
